Matt Stuart ENGLISH
Think like a Street Photographer

The 10,000-hour rule states that it takes about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to reach world-class level in a given field. Matt Stuart has taken this rule to heart and applied it throughout his life—first as a trumpeter, then as a skateboarder, and since the year 2000 as a photographer. Street photography may look like luck, but you have to get out there and hone your craft if you want to shake up those luck vibes.
His books of street photography include All That Life Can Afford (2016) and Into the Fire (2020). In his latest book Think like a Street Photographer (2021) Matt Stuart reveals in over 20 chapters the hard-won skills and secrets that have led to his greatest shots.
«My pictures reveal something bizarre about the world, even if it is just a minor event or gesture.«
As the Keynote Speaker at the Leica Summit 2026, Matt Stuart will delve into his purist and uniquely playful approach to street photography and provide anecdotes to some of his most famous shots. For people who want to get a bit more insight into his approach, Matt will also conduct two photowalks (Friday evening / Saturday morning).
Stuart became a member of the In-Public street photography collective in 2001 and in 2016 was a nominee member of Magnum Photos. Of note, his work also appeared in group exhibitions at the Museum of London (which acquired his work for its permanent collection).
